All hopes of setting a new national record were completely shut off for Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap as the national sprinter missed the opportunity to do so after sustaining leg cramps during the 100m event in the Pahang Open Athletics Championship yesterday.
The young prodigy, whom was very determined to renew the record, ended the semifinals in the Stadium Darul Makmur with a total of 10.34s, just 0.04s more than Watson Nyambek’s unbeatable record.
In the finals, the Melaka native only achieved an ultimate record of 10.55s to defeat Khairul Hafiz Jantan’s 10.59s to secure the gold medal. The bronze medal was handed to team MAF KITA’s Harith Ammar Saadon, whom finished at 10.69s.
“The luck was not on my side in this championship and I could not create a new national record. However, this is not the end of it because I will keep working hard to achieve my dream and renew the record,” said Badrul as quoted from Berita Harian.
“For now, I am not sure which competition is up next because the decision is in my coach’s hands and I am always ready.”
Badrul will be taking part in the 4x100m men’s individual event today.
