Mehmet Durakovic’s future with Selangor appears to be bleak after Pahang confirmed the appointment of Ahmad Shahruddin Rosdi as their new head coach.
The appointment officially means that Zainal Abidin Hassan has left the club and is now awaiting a verbal response from Selangor with regards to the head coach role that was reportedly offered to him.
Key individuals within Football Association of Selangor (FAS) were keen proceeding with Zainal’s appointment, though they are currently reconsidering it due to pressure from players as well as fans.
Most players within the Selangor squad are heavily lobbying for Durakovic to be retained, while fans are also pushing for it, after the 50 year-old Australian led them to their 33rd Malaysia Cup title last weekend.
FAS has refused to entertain questions regarding this Durakovic’s future, though according to several local dailies, they’ve promised to clarify the situation by the end of next week.
Should Zainal be hired, it will put an end to Durakovic’s two-year stint with the Red Giants, in which he led them to second spot on the MSL table for two consecutive seasons, besides ending their 10-year wait for a Malaysia Cup triumph.
