Selangor announce signing of ex-Atletico Madrid striker

The Football Association of Selangor (FAS) have acquired the services of Spanish forward Rufino Segovia to replace Brazilian attacker Juliano Mineiro for the second half of the season.

Rufino Segovia joins The Red Giants from Hong Kong side Kitchee SC after the 32 year-old striker impressed head coach P. Maniam and the management team during the trials for the team.

Selangor manager Abd Rauf Ahmad is extremely delighted with the signing of Rufino Segovia, but he expresses his thanks to Juliano Mineiro, who was dropped because of injury problems.

“We were impressed with Segovia’s abilities during the selections and I think he will fit well with the team. He can play as an attacking midfielder as well,” he said as quoted by Harian Metro.

“We wish all the best to Juliano Mineiro in his career and we are hoping for a great season.”

The Spanish forward has played professional football in his country for Rayo Vallecano, Atletico B and Atletico Madrid, before moving abroad and playing in a number of clubs. Rufino Segovia is also familiar with Asian football after playing in the AFC Cup with Kitchee SC.

Rufino Segovia will complete the foreign quota limit for Selangor after the likes of Francis Forkey Doe, Ugo Ukah and Andik Vermansyah were retained under head coach P. Maniam.
