10 year-old Malaysian wins Stars of Tomorrow Championships

Malaysia’s tennis sensation Imran Daniel Hazli brought Merdeka Day joy with a stunning victory in the Stars of Tomorrow Under-11 Championships in Germany after defeating Nicolas Philibert from England 6-2, 6-1 in the boys’ singles final yesterday.

The event took place in Hohr-Grenzhausen, Westerwaldkreis on clay court surface, although that did not stop the Sri Hartamas student to showcase his fine performance.

The son of former national player Abdul Hazli Zainuddin overcame Holland’s Manvydas Balciunas 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-final prior to that.

“Malaysia celebrates National Day tomorrow (today) and I am happy to win this tournament. I hope I can win more competitions in the future,” said the 10-year-old, as quoted by New Straits Times.

This will be Imran’s second title at an international level, as he won the Under-8 title in the PTT Hatyai Open in Thailand in 2012.
