Malaysia Super League Preview: Felda United vs Kelantan

Who would have thought that the departure of Azraai Khor Abdullah would coincide with a renaissance in Kelantan’s form. In fact, that’s the last thing anyone would have thought off, judging by their shambolic displays over the last few months. Under Azraai, they only won a single Super League match.

They are unbeaten in the last four games, winning three of them, including a 1-0 victory over the high-flying Perak. Bear in mind that it’s not an easy feat, considering how compact the Seladangs have been this season.

But there seems to be something fresh about Kelantan’s style of play in the last few weeks. Almost as if they’ve completely switched onto a relaxed mentality and there’s no doubting the fact that they will be keen to keep that going against Felda on Wednesday.

The Settlers on the other hand, have had a topsy turvy season. Just take a look at their last five Super League matches. Two wins, two defeats and a draw. And they can get pretty unpredictable as well. On the 27th of June, they claimed an easy 2-0 win over Sarawak, keeping a clean sheet in the process. But in the next game, they drew 2-2 with Sime Darby, a side that has been at the bottom of the table for most of this campaign.

That’s precisely what makes this clash enticing. On one hand, you’ve got a side that’s climbing the ladder, slowly but surely, after a difficult season. On the other hand, you’ve got a team that springs surprise every now and then, without leaving any hint.

The last time they played each other, Felda United ran out as close 1-0 winners in Kota Bharu and the circumstances at that point were not ideal for the home team. But the confidence is back and they will be gunning for a powerful performance on Wednesday night.

Question is, will Felda United show up for the fight?
