When Bayer Leverkusen defeated Augsburg 2-1 in their league finale, they became the first team in the Bundesliga to go the entire season undefeated.
The winners, Xabi Alonso’s team, who won the championship on April 14, led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Robert Andrich and Victor Boniface. Mert Komur scored a goal for the visitors, but Leverkusen held on to complete an incredible season with a win.
Since Juventus in 2011–12, Leverkusen is currently the first team in the top five leagues in Europe to be undefeated during the whole league season. With 34 games played and 90 points overall, they conclude the current Bundesliga season 17 points ahead of Stuttgart in second place.
Due to an injury, Bayern Munich lost 4-2 at Hoffenheim on the last day of play, dropping them to third place. Harry Kane was absent from the team.
This season, Leverkusen has also gone undefeated across all competitions, extending their record-breaking unbeaten streak to 51 games.
The Bundesliga winners will now play Atalanta in the Europa League final on Wednesday, followed by a matchup with Kaiserslautern of the second division in the German Cup final on Saturday.
