Moto3 Junior Champ’ship: Khairul Idham claims podium finish

Khairul Idham Pawi carved a great moment for the nation as he clinched a marvelous podium finish in the Moto3 Junior Championships held in Le Mans, France yesterday.

Starting tenth on the grid, the 16 year-old was on full throttle throughout the 12 laps; finishing second in just under 21m 06.201s. Spain’s Aron Canet dominated the race and won it in 21m 20.520s.

The third place was sealed by Dutch Bo Bendsyneyder who crossed the line in 21m 06.365s.

The race was initially composed of 17 laps but was shortened to 12 when the red flags appeared following an accident involving Italian rider Tony Arbolino, halfway through the race.

“I am happy with the victory, especially since I had to start from the third line. I had to work hard to achieve a great spot,” said Khairul as quoted from Utusan.

“The race was even more challenging in the last lap because I had to battle with Sena Yamada and Bo to place myself in the second.”

“I think this will be a memorable race for me,” he added.
