Van Gaal: ‘Special One’ is a modest guy

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has dismissed the misconception of him having a feisty relationship with Jose Mourinho, claiming that the Chelsea manager is his friend and that he’s a modest guy.

Both sides will taking on each other in the Premier League this weekend, and most of the pre-match talks thus far has focused on the relationship between Mourinho and Van Gaal, with both men having worked together in the past.

Though they are rivals now, Van Gaal still claims that he has an exceptional relationship with the Portuguese.

”He’s such a wonderful coach,” Van Gaal said. “And to see that he’s been a champion in different countries is fantastic. He is a very modest and emotional human being, and I like that.

”He’s very special but he is very special for me because I’ve worked with him and we’ve continued our relationship, which in the football world is not always normal. That’s nice.”

“When we see each other, we feel the warmth between us and our families, which is nice,” Van Gaal added.

Mourinho’s men currently lead the Premier League table, but are facing the prospect of taking on Man United this weekend, without their star forward, Diego Costa.
