Kedah head coach Tan Cheng Hoe is not getting too excited about the prospects of being Malaysia Cup finalists as he expects Pahang to produce comeback performance in the second leg of their semi finals clash.
The Canaries are now favourites to go through to securing a comprehensive 3-1 victory at Alor Star last Sunday, but according to Cheng Hoe, Pahang’s away goal gives them plenty of reasons to not be over-confident ahead of the second leg on Friday.
“We still have another 90 minutes to play in the second leg. Whenever possible, you don’t want to concede a goal and because Pahang have scored an away goal it will make it more difficult for us,” he said.
“But I have to give praise to my players because to score three goals against a strong team like Pahang shows how determined they were. It was not an easy thing to do and I believe the players have the confidence and ability to face the task ahead in Kuantan.”
Despite struggling in the Premier League, Kedah have had a stellar Malaysia Cup campaign so far, defeating teams of Perak, Kelantan and Pahang’s stature.
“Again the players showed their fighting spirit and commitment. Pahang have quality players who know how to win games and congratulations to my players with the confident way they played.”
The second leg will take place at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan this Friday, with kick off slated for 8.45pm
