The 2014 Tissot Australian Grand Prix will feature new tyre allocations Bridgestone have specifically developed with the Phillip Island circuit in mind, according to a report by Moto GP.
In an official statement to MotoGP, Bridgestone have emphasised how the technicalities surrounding these new allocations will serve to improve rider safety more than ever before.
“New advances in tyre construction and compound technology have enabled Bridgestone to create a front slick tyre that maintains the braking stability of a symmetric tyre” the statement read.
“In the case of Phillip Island where there are five right-hand corners compared to seven left-hand corners, the softer rubber zone will be on the right shoulder…[which] means that when the rider reaches a lean angle…they begin to use the zone of softer rubber on the front tyre for greater safety” the statement went on to detail.
Phillip Island is traditionally a circuit that demands much of rear tyres during the race and this has been the primary reason for Bridgestone’s work, as per the MotoGP report.
Shinji Aoki, manager of Bridgestone’s Motorcycle Tyre Development Department, has also spoken highly of the new allocations and the effort that has gone into their development.
“Our new asymmetric front slick is the result of a long development programme” he stated when speaking to MotoGP.
“This development is yet another example of our commitment to continue developing new MotoGP tyre technology” he added.
The Australian Grand Prix event is scheduled to take place this Saturday on October 19 at Phillip Island.
