Back in May, Melaka United’s head coach Eric Williams was rested during their match against FELDA United.
Williams’ assistant, G. Selvamohan stepped in as his substitute.
The move inevitably sparked rumours about Melaka possibly dropping Eric Willams as head coach. Melaka United’s team manager Datuk Wira Mohd. Yusoff Mahadi, however, rubbished those rumours and said that it was merely because Eric Williams was feeling under the weather.
“Williams is not feeling well at the moment – so we have decided to “rest” him. But it is only a temporary move.” Datuk Yusoff Mahadi told NST.
However, Datuk Yusoff Mahadi also said that they might look into changing their coaching structure, since most of the Melaka players do not agree with William’s style of coaching.
Earlier in April, Datuk Yusoff Mahadi also expressed his frustration at Melaka’s deteriorating performance and hinted that they might drop all of their import players, including their head coach.
The rumours appear to be substantiated now that Datuk Yusoff Mahadi has said that Melaka will be sporting a new look after the transfer window.
Apart from acquiring new players, Melaka will also be signing a new head coach.
“We will make a decision very soon, latest by next week. We will decide on who will replace Eric Williams in Melaka.” Bernama quoted Datuk Yusoff Mahadi as saying.
“We will consult with all parties first, including the other coaches, officials, and the players.” he added.
“Whether local or international, I don’t mind, the new coach will need to improve things at Melaka and work on the team’s performance. We need to get better.”
Melaka are currently in the relegation zone, having lost two of their last five matches and drew three; in which they also suffered a 7-0 defeat to Johor Darul Ta’zim on the 9th of April.
Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said that Melaka are already looking at a few names like Mohd Azraai Khor Abdullah, K Devan, and Datuk K Rajagobal as Williams’ replacement.
