#AllEngland: Lin Dan showdown on the cards as Chong Wei prepares for semis

Datuk Lee Chong Wei breezed through the quarter finals as he proved he was no match for seventh seed and 2016 All England MS silver medalist, Tian Houwei of China.

The Rio Olympic silver medalist and three-time All England champion started out strong in the first set, and kept that momentum going until he defeated Tan Houwei 21-12, 21-15, all under 45 minutes.

Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying defeated China’s Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping 23-21, 21-14 in the quarter-final match.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying will be joining Datuk Lee Chong Wei in the semi-finals.

However, it was tough luck for Malaysia’s mens’ doubles pair, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong as they were defeated by China’s Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen of China in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Goh V Shem – Tan Wee Kiong were outclassed by Li Junhui – Liu Yuchen in the first set. The Malaysian duo did stage a comeback during the second set, but failed to replicate that in the third set as the Chinese duo won 21-19, 17-21, 21-19.

Here are the semi-finals fixtures for tonight – 11 March:

Mens’ doubles: Lee Chong Wei v Chou Tien Chen

Time: 8.30 pm

Mixed doubles: Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying v Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino
