The War Elephants are in it to win it again. The defending champions are off to Yangon to face hosts Myanmar at the Thuwunna Stadium this Sunday.
According to Thailand coach Kiatisuk Senamuang, the team has been training intensively, using different methods and tactics to perfect their game plan for the semi-finals. The team will do everything in their power to win this game so they will have an advantage at the home game at the Rajamangala National Stadium on Thursday.
“It is important that we must not underestimate Myanmar at all.” the coach told Bangkok Post. “They (Myanmar) are a young team and most of their players are fit. We will play our game.”
Thai captain and forward Teerasil Dangda agrees with Kiatisuk. “We are all braced for the game, especially me. I have never won the title for myself and I want to present the Suzuki Cup title as a New Year gift to the Thai people.”
The Muangthong United player scored a hat trick during the group stage when Thailand faced Indonesia. They won 4-2.
“We have been mourning the passing of His Majesty the King. If we can win the tournament it will serve as a great tribute for him.” Teerasil added.
The War Elephants have won all three of their AFF Suzuki matches at group stage, and their chances of cruising into the finals remains solid. After all, they were the champions before, and could very well do it again.
