“Don’t lose focus on the pitch” – Gomez tells JDT players ahead of South China tie

Johor DT boss Mario Gomez has warned his players to fully concentrate and not lose focus when they host South China AA in the second leg of their AFC Cup quarter-final bout tonight.

The Southern Tigers were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week, thanks to a late equalizer from South China’s Komazec. But while they do have a previous away goal, Gomez believes its necessary to be cautious in dealing with the Hong Kong side.

“The 1-1 draw was important for us, but we’re not in a safe zone just yet. The next 90 minutes is going to be crucial, and my players will need to double their efforts to clinch a win,” Gomez told reporters at the pre-match press conference.

“We need to stay concentrated in every position, be it defence, midfield or attack. If one department loses focus, we can be punished.

“In football, there are times when we make mistakes and the opposition can take advantage of that. But mistakes that we made last week are important lessons for us and hopefully we won’t repeat them,” Gomez added.
