The official opening of the Olympic village in Rio has been everything but smooth, as the washrooms were found to be clogged and the water and gas pipes have been leaking.
The unsavoury conditions have forced the Australian contingent to check in at a nearby hotel instead.
Even the local Brazilian athletes are still staying in hotels around Rio instead of moving into the village, which was opened yesterday.
However, some of the participating nations like the Britain didn’t mind the hassle as they choose to stay at the Olympic village as scheduled.
The sponsors of the Rio Olympics has since come out with a statement, saying such an issue is not new to a sporting event, and that they’ll waste no time in solving it.
This latest fiasco at the Olympic village will be another blow to host nation Brazil as they are currently struggling to ensure smooth passage of the event, which is also the first to be held in South America.
Some of the problems plaguing Rio 2016 include uninspiring ticket sales, the loss of general interest due to economic downturn, the threat from Zika virus and the increase of crime rates.
