China Masters: Iskandar, Liew Daren advance to third round

National men’s singles players Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Liew Daren have qualified for the third round of the Bonny China Masters with second round wins yesterday evening.

The 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist defeated China’s Zhu Siyuan in straight sets after coming from a losing position to win 21-19, 21-19 at the Changzhou Olympic Sports Center.

The 24 year-old will face South Korea’s Lee Dong Keun later today.

Liew Daren continued to silence his critics after booking a third round spot as he defeated China’s Ye Binghong 21-18, 16-21, 21-15 in a match that lasted exactly an hour. The former world No. 10 is scheduled to face India’s H. S. Prannoy in the last 16 in the evening.

The men’s doubles and women’s doubles category saw a pair each qualifying for the next round of the China Masters after securing second round wins yesterday. Hoon Thien How-Teo Kok Siang and Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei defeated Chinese Taipei’s Shang Kai Lin-Lu Ching Yao and China’s Guo Xuyi-Liu Huijie respectively to book a spot in the third round today.

They will face He Jiting-Tan Qiang and Huang Dongping-Zhong Qianxin of China respectively.
