National men’s singles player Chong Wei Feng continued his struggle to produce a positive result at the highest level after failing to qualify for the first round of the All England Open.
The Malaysian shuttler started the competition well by beating Denmark’s Jaochim Perrson 21-11, 22-24, 21-17 in the first qualifying match at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham.
However, he failed to bring the momentum forward to the second qualifying match after losing out to Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 10-21, 17-21 in only 41 minutes.
The Kedah-born badminton player has a chance to redeem himself when takes part in the Swiss Open next week.
Meanwhile, women’s singles player Lydia Cheah and women’s doubles Lim Peiy Yee-Lim Peiy Zhean also failed to get past the qualifying round after losing their first matches.
