Louis van Gaal offered to quit after Southampton defeat

Louis van Gaal offered to resign as Manchester United manager after the 1-0 defeat at home to Southampton on Saturday.

However, Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward persuaded him to discuss his future with his family before making a decision.

Louis van Gaal traveled to The Netherlands on Sunday to celebrate his daughter’s birthday and will return to Carrington on Tuesday morning.

Fans were left distraught after the performance on Saturday as the Old Trafford local jeered the Dutchman as he made his way down the tunnel.

The fans had to go through 8 matches without a win before winning narrowly against Swansea City and Sheffield United, surrendering a 2-0 lead at Newcastle where the match ended 3-3 and fortunate enough to scrape a 1-0 win against rivals Liverpool.

Louis van Gaal have been unable to excite the fans with the club’s traditional fast tempo and attacking style, with fans suggesting that it is time for a new manager.

Jose Mourinho, who has apparently sent a six-page letter outlining his plans to transform the club’s misfortunes is favourite to become the new Manchester United manager if Louis van Gaal resigns.

Pep Guardiola has a slim chance as he been destined to take over the hot seat of Manchester City. Who Manchester United fans would love to see as boss is Ryan Giggs, but chances are very unlikely as he does not have the experience to handle the job.
