Nicol David trounces Annie Au to book TOC quarters slot

Malaysian squash queen Nicol David is through to the quarter-final of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions after claiming a comfortable win over Hong Kong’s Annie Au.

The world number three produced a stunning display at the Vanderbilt Hall in New York, claiming a 11-2, 11-5, 11-9 win to keep her good momentum going.

“I want to be out there playing well and feeling good,” Nicol told PSAWorldTour.com after the game.

“I think that’s the main goal and, whether or not it is a short or a long game, I just want to get in there, see the ball well and play my game. Annie played well. She really got going at the end and I knew I had to dig deep during the crucial points.

“I was fortunate with the stroke [at the end] but a win is a win and I’m looking forward to the next round. I’m pleased to win 3-0, Annie is a tough contender and I’m just really happy to get through to the quarter-finals,” she added.

The 32 year-old will face Egypt’s Omneya Abdel Kawy in the quarters tomorrow.
