Extreme sport in Malaysia seems to have limited reception but that does not stop One Silat from taking its influence and championship to Europe to develop the sport, with Netherlands being its best option.
President of One Silat, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin claimed that the hype generated by fans outside the Titiwangsa Stadium over the 22 local and foreign athletes proved that the sport indeed is gaining interest of many and is slowly growing to be a sport many would sit and enjoy.
“We plan to keep on revolutionizing the sport from time to time and the development was quite fast since it was its first event was held in last October, following the second event in 25th of December,” said Megat as quoted from Harian Metro.
“I have met with a few of the representatives from Netherlands to see if there’s a chance for One Silat to make an appearance in their country and it seems there might be a possibility for us to do that.”
“Nevertheless, it’s still an early stage for planning and if everything goes on smoothly, insya-Allah this year Netherlands will be one of venues for the One Silat Championship.”
Megat also stated that the first event end in Putrajaya during the Youth Festival last May was seen as a trial in order to improve and mend mistakes.
“The reception this time was encouraging. I think the competition this time is far more competitive because all the athletes are clear with the rules already.”
“The eight local athletes too have been garnering a lot of attention, especially since Fauzi Khalid (former world champion) will be making his inaugural appearance in the championship.”
