ATM reaffirm faith in B. Sathianathan

B. Sathianathan’s job as the head coach ATM is still safe despite the team’s disastrous start to the new season of Malaysian football.

The Armed Forces have lost all three of their Super League matches thus far, and were even knocked out of the FA Cup by second tier side T-Team last weekend. All of this has happened despite them going on a shopping spree during the off-season bringing in the likes of Norshahrul Idlan and Honduran star Jerry Palacios.

While rumours have been suggesting that coach Sathianathan could be facing the sack, ATM’s management have reiterated their faith in him, suggesting that it’s only a matter of time before the team starts doing well on the pitch.

“There has been no discussions on Sathia’s future. But we still think he has what it takes to lead this group of players, which to me is pretty solid, especially with the arrival of new names,” ATM’s Secretary-General Lt Kol Alias Jaafar told Harian Metro.

“Players like Mat Yo, Hairuddin Omar and Jerry Palacios clearly justifies the quality that is present within the team. We’ve just not had the luck yet.

“I’m equally baffled as to why we’ve been struggling thus far, but maybe the new players just need some time to gel. We even have players who recently returned from injuries, so they need time as well,” he added.

ATM will next face Terengganu this weekend, though their hopes of bouncing back has been handed a major blow with defender K. Reuben being ruled out for three months due to injury.
