Sime Darby head coach Ismail Zakaria isn’t happy with the fact that his men have lost their opening two games as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
The suffered a 0-2 loss to Perak in their season opener, before falling down 0-3 to Felda United last week, leaving them as one of only two sides to have not collected a single point in the Malaysia Super League so far. And as far as Ismail is concerned, this pattern cannot continue anymore.
“We can’t afford to drop more points as it will end up complicating things for us in the league,” he told Harian Metro.
“Seems like we’ve not had the luck to be able to win matches, but I believe the players will bounce back. Even last season, we suffered five defeats early on before picking up our tempo and finishing the season strongly.
“But I’m not keen on repeating that again. We need to improve soon,” he added.
Sime Darby made massive investments during the off-season, bringing in three Serbian players in the form of ex-Basel forward Marko Perovic, Nemanja Vidakovic as well as Ivan Dragicevic, all of whom have struggled thus far.
That being said, Ismail Zakaria remains optimistic of their ability to forge an understanding with the other players soon and he’s even hoping to see them do well against Terengganu this weekend.
“The three Serbians were injured during the off-season, so they are still trying to find their rhythm. But I have absolute confidence in their abilities as individuals.
“In fact, most teams are struggling to find a fixed identity since the season is still fresh and I hope we’d be able to churn out a victory over Terengganu this weekend.”
