SIC confirm Malaysian GP time change

It has been confirmed! The 2015 Formula One Petronas Grand Prix will have its race time altered when it takes place later this year.

The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has officially announced that the race will start an hour earlier at 3pm instead of the usual 4pm timing in previous years.

SIC Chief Executive Officer Razlan Razali recently revealed that he was in talks with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone over the renewal of the race contract, and that Bernie himself raised the idea of altering the race time.

This is part of a new safety approach that is being adopted by FIA due to the heavy downpours that usually happen later in the evening; something that has affected recent F1 races in Malaysia.

The approach was kicked into place in the wake of Jules Bianchi’s horrific crash at the Japanese GP last year.

Besides Malaysia, the time change will also be implemented for several other Grand Prix’s including the Australian and Chinese races.
