The Atlanta Hawks are officially for sale, with plans to sell all their shares well underway.
Most of their shares are now available for purchase, including operating rights to the Phillips Arena, which is the Hawks’ home ground, though the current owners are prepared to make concessions in order to incentivize the new owners to continue using Atlanta as their base for the next 30 years.
Either way, the Hawks would have to pay a $75 million early termination fee, should they decide to leave before the 2018-2019 season.
That being said, the Hawks will be drawing plenty of attention considering that there are various factors making it an attractive option for interested parties out there. Their stadium attendance is certainly on the rise and they are also off to their best start in the history of the franchise with a record of 27-8.
Forbes currently value the Hawks at $425 million though the current group of owners are expecting to make a profit that would at least be double of that amount. This comes after huge value hike that was caused by the sale of Clippers for almost $2 billion despite Forbes valuing it at around $575 million
