Nafiizwan and Delia Arnold reign supreme in Nationals

National squash player Nafiizwan Adnan won the National Squash Championships title after beating Asyraf Azan 11-3, 11-6, 11-7 at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

This represents Nafiizwan’s first national title, having lost to Ong Beng Hee, the last time he came close to winning it in 2012 and 2013.

THe 29 year-old was pleased with the win and is determined to use the success to motivate him for the upcoming World Open Squash Championship, which will be held in Washington, from November 13 to November 22.

“I’m very happy to win this title, especially after beating Ong Beng Hee in the semi-final, considering he’s previously done the same to me.

“To win this tournament is very meaningful for me and I hope this success would drive me to do even better in the World Open Championship next week,” he told Bernama yesterday.

Meanwhile in the women’s category, World No. 15 Delia Arnold triumphed by defeating compariot Low Wee Wern 11-6, 11-5, 11-5.

“It is not easy to beat Wee Wern, she is very tough even though she is struggling with knee injury and I had to double my effort to beat her.

“Overall, I’m very happy to win this tournament for the first time and I will use this victory to achieve Top 10 world ranking at the end of the year and to reach that I need to maintain my performances especially in the upcoming Hong Kong Open,” she said.
