Malaysian squash queen Nicol David is already looking forward to the US Open, claiming that she’s determined to retain the title she won last year.
The tournament will get underway this weekend, and Nicol, who recently recovered from a thigh injury, is already setting her sights on clinching her fourth consecutive US Open title.
“I can’t wait for the US Open to start. I hope I’ll be able to repeat my success from last year, though the challenge will be greater this time around,” she told Harian Metro.
Nicol is already being touted as a major favourite to win the tournament, alongside her Egyptian rival, Raneem El Weilely – who dispatched Nicol as the world number one earlier this year.
That being said, Raneem’s recent defeat to compatriot Nour El Sherbini at the Carol Weymuller Open, suggests that it could potentially be a three-pronged fight, as far as the US Open is concerned.
