Despite being content with the team’s overall performance, national junior hockey squad coach Arul Selvaraj has voiced his dissatisfaction over the attitude of several players, who put personal glory ahead of team success.
Arul’s boys started preparation for the 2015 Johor Sultan Cup in a 1-3 defeat against Stephen Van Huizen’s senior side yesterday, but stated that the friendly match was intended to analyze the ability of his players to follow instructions given to them.
“I don’t mind about the final result because this match was mainly to see how players adapt to the strategy given from various aspects; attacking, positioning, ball control and etc.”
“What was disappointing is the attitude of certain players, who prefer to make decisions individually instead of working as a team,” Arul said, as quoted by Utusan.
When asked about their arrangements ahead of the Johor Sultan Cup, Arul insists that he is not worried and his boys are full prepared.
“I’m not worried because I know the players are ready to play. However, the final 18-players list will be announced on October 8 (tomorrow).”
Malaysia will begin their campaign against Great Britain this Sunday.
