Malaysia’s young hockey forward Rashid Baharom will be hoping for an exciting career with HTC Schwarz-Weiss Neuss, after making his debut with his new club in the Bundesliga German Hockey League.
Rashid, who was snatched by the last season’s Division One winner, however have not gotten the chance to nick a goal but believes the time will soon arrive to prove his worth.
“It’s not easy to score against teams here as the style and skills are totally different, besides the quality of the players. I hope to learn more during the training sessions, including improving my ability to score more goals,” said Rashid, as quoted by Arena Metro.
Rashid started the game along side national teammate Faizal Helmi Jali, who was also making his debut, but couldn’t help their new club as they went down 1-3 to Berliner HC.
Total of 12 clubs are competing in the main league, with Koln leading the table after four matches played.
WHAT DO WE THINK?
It’s a great opportunity for our local hockey players to impress in a foreign land. With a club of new faces and facilities, Rashid and Faizal would be exposed to different approaches to the game, from a technical and physical aspect. Besides, in a time where the nation is striving towards foreign expertise in sports, this proves to be a great move for the players who in turn can come back and teach a thing or two from their gained experience.
