JDT’s Mario Gomez: I don’t know who Simunic is

Johor DT’s head coach Mario Gomez has urged his men to be cautious with their approach against Perak, claiming that they could line-up differently under new Vjeran Simunic.

The Southern Tigers clinched a 4-1 win over the Seladangs in the Super League last month, though Perak have made a managerial change since then, appointing Simunic, who is the former Brunei DPMM boss.

Gomez on the other hand, pointed out that he doesn’t know who Simunic is, which makes the tie considerably tricky for them to deal with.

“I don’t know who the coach (Simunic) is and Perak may adopt a different tactical approach, even if they are using the same players. So we have to be careful,” he told Harian Metro.

“Either way, my boys would have to increase their mental strength and play without pressure. It’s crucial they stick to instructions and execute the tactical approach I’ve planned for this game.

Obviously we want to win, but we can’t get too overconfident. We have to stay grounded, take each match as it comes and always give your best shot on the pitch,” he added.

The JDT-Perak game will officially get the Malaysia Cup underway tonight, with kick off slated for 8.45 PM.
