Former men singles national shuttler Datuk James Selvaraj has criticized Zulfadli Zulkiffli’s decision to turn down the offer to play under Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
According to him, very few players are able to succeed on their own, and Zulfadli’s refusal is a complete waste of talent.
“It’s a loss on Zulfadli’s side. BAM now has Morten Forst, a more systematic training system and they are able to monitor shuttlers from all aspect.”
“If he succeeds on his own, it’s good. But if it’s the other way around, don’t end up blaming BAM for not giving the chance earlier on.”
“There will not be any issue of finding sponsors if he had joined BAM. Besides, he will have sparring partners who are on the same level as him, with Frost and coach Hendrawan to monitor his progress,” he told Arena Metro.
Zulfadli’s father, Zulkiffli Sidek had announced their decision on Sunday, after lengthy discussions with National Sports Council director general, Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.
One of the main reasons for his refusal was because he was already undergoing a special program, designed by Zulkiffli himself, in preparation for next year’s Rio Olympics.
