Perak FA confirm ‘bizarre’ appointment of Vjeran Simunic

Perak FA have surprisingly appointed former Brunei DPPM boss Vjeran Simunic as their new head coach.

The Seladangs are currently preparing for the upcoming Malaysia Cup challenge, and they were already on the look for a new head coach, having removed Datuk M. Karathu from the position, two weeks ago.

Simunic will now be tasked with guiding them through the Malaysia Cup, though his appointment does come as a bit of a surprise.

The 62 year-old was initially appointed for the same role in October 2014, before PAFA made a u-turn on that decision and signed up Datuk M. Karathu, just before 2015 kicked in.

Simunic was supposedly handed a new role within the Perak FA academy, but in an exclusive interview with Coach Karathu in January, he revealed that the players and coaching staff’s displeasure with Simunic’s training methods led to his departure from the role.

If that’s the case, his current appointment does come as a surprise, considering that he’ll be working with the exact group of players who were supposedly ‘unhappy’ with him less than a year ago.
