Local racer Fairuz Fauzy ends KL City GP on a high note

After overcoming various problems and obstacles, former Formula One test driver Fairuz Fauzy showed great persistence in the race for the KL City Cup, as he finished as runners up in the KL City Grand Prix, yesterday.

The OD Racing driver recorded a time of 40 minute and 49.879 seconds in 24 rounds, in the GTM/GT4 category, although Fairuz made a last minute decision to continue even after severe damages to the electronic gearbox system in the race car he was supposed to race in.

Luckily, Italian manufacturer Lamborghini decided to borrow one of their cars to Fairuz, and it paid off as the 33-year-old racer ended the race just 36.101 seconds behind winner Naoki Yokomizo of team Direction Racing.

“Everything happened in the last minute, especially when I received the news of the Lamborghini team who were kind enough to borrow their race car to me.”

“I want to race. It was not an easy task because I had to cut my practice time due to the gear box problem with my car. I started the race from the back and I got really motivated hearing all the cheers from the crowd, and thankfully I did end the race well,” Fairuz said as quoted from Utusan.

Meanwhile, another local racer Afiq Ikhwan Mohamad Yazid, failed to end the race after getting involved in an accident in the first round itself.
