Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong are certainly aiming high when it comes to the World Championships in Jakarta, which starts next week.
The national no.1 men doubles pair believe that a quarter final berth is possible, despite being expected to face South Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Shin Baek Choel in the second round.
“If you follow the draw, I do think our realistic approach is towards the quarter finals. We will probably meet the Koreans (Sung Hyun-Baek Choel), but they are not as good as the country’s first choice pair (Lee Yong Dae-Yoo Yeon Seong),” said V Shem, as stated in Harian Metro.
“Should we go through, we may face China’s Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan. It’s not easy but we are surely looking to spring a surprise.”
V Shem also believes the confidence gained from reaching the final of Russia Open affected their recent performances. “Even though we finished as runners up, it gave us a lot of positive outcomes.”
The Malaysian pair will begin their Jakarta campaign against United States’s Philip Chew and Sattawat Pongnairat.
