Malaysian Weiron Tan speeds ahead in Iowa

Malaysian racer Weiron Tan was in scintillating form in the round 12 of the Pro Mazda Championship at the Iowa Speedway in Iowa, Ilinois, as he bagged yet another victory yesterday.

Tan led every lap of the 100-lap race in his #22 Andrettu Autosport Team car and crossed the finishing line 9.7 seconds ahead of the second-placed driver.

In the beginning, the Malaysian started in pole position after officials found three racers ahead him to have broken regulations in qualifying rounds.

Tan took advantage of his luck and powered off the start-line to control the race immediately, racing ahead to lead by over four car lengths from his nearest competitor.

Despite other racers pushing behind, Tan kept his focus on maintaining his position and improved on his lap times, demonstrating his oval racing skills on the short 0.875-mile circuit and efficiently crossed the finish line for his fourth win of the season.

Speaking to the Malay Mail, Tan said: “Big congratulations to the team, we couldn’t have asked for a better result. The boys worked hard all the time and they deserve a little celebration. I felt that we made a really good comeback, to put the car on pole and win the race with the fastest lap, especially facing minor problems frequently. Very happy for them, for us, and we will be pushing hard for the remaining races!”

The Pro Mazda Championship will continue at the Mid-Ohio Sports car Course in Lexington, Ohio, from July 30 to August 2.
