Wee Kiong setting sights on future glory

National badminton player Tan Wee Kiong is looking forward to continuously growing as a pair with Goh V Shem, following their good performance at the recent Sudirman Cup.

Both men secured a victory over South Korea’s first seeds, Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong in the opening match of the tournament.

The Malaysian duo will be competing in a myriad of tournaments over the next few months, including the Australian Open Superseries, Indonesian Open Superseries as well as the Singapore SEA Games; and Wee Kiong believes they have what it takes to maybe even triumph in one of these competitions.

“Our performance is getting better day by day. Of course we are happy but it is not enough to be the best men’s doubles pair in the world therefore we need to work harder,” he said as quoted from Harian Metro.

“Actually, before heading to Dongguan we were already completely prepared. After all this is a team competition so our spirits were lifted up. After this we will be facing much more different challenges.”

“I hope we can be able to win something in the Australian Open even though the draw is tough. In our opening match we will face Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, and if we drift into the quarters, we will be playing against Chinese pair Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan,” he added.

The Malaysian pair are currently placed 29th in the BWF World Rankings.
