ARC: Malaysia claim narrow home win over UAE

The Malaysian rugby squad had plenty of reasons to celebrate yesterday after coming from behind to seize a crucial win over United Arab Emirates in the Asian Rugby Championship.

Lee Nyuk Fah’s men secure a 20-19 win and they are on track to defend their title as Division 2 champions, following last year’s win over Qatar. Malaysia had initially been given a major confidence boost, after obliterating Chinese Taipei 46-13 in the opening match.

“I would like to thank all the players for this victory. I admit that luck was by our side, but the players deserve credit for their good performance,” said head coach Lee Nyuk Fah as quoted from Harian Metro.

“We still have one more match against our old rivals, Thailand. Even though they had lost of the matches before, I still feel a need to keep an eye on them because they have fast players that can trap us.”

“Whatever it is, I hope that the players will stay focus for the match.”

Malaysia is set to battle against Thailand on Saturday, a team that hasn’t won a single game in the competition.
