British Open: Nicol David breezes into second round

World number one squash player Nicol David is through to the second round of the 2015 British Open after beating Welsh Tesni Evans at the University of Hull, England.

Nicol secured the first two sets comfortably, winning 11-2, 11-4 before suffering a set-back in her third set, losing 7-11. But the Malaysian did not disappoint by bouncing back in the fourth set, before winning it 11-9 to book her spot in the next stage.

“She read my game and took some opportunities when she saw then,” David said after the game.

“I tried to mix my game up a bit more in the third game but after what I had to go back to what I do best.”

“She played so well I’m actually please to have got through that 3-1,” she added.

David will next play against eighteenth seed Emma Beddoes from England.

Meanwhile, fellow Malaysian Delia Arnold also progressed into the second round by claiming an upset over local favourite Alison Waters in three straight sets, winning 11-8, 11-5 and 11-4.

She will next face Hong Kong’s Annie Au.
