New Zealand Open: Lee Hyun Il triumphs over Qiao Bin

Former world number one and Olympics semifinalist, Lee Hyun Il showcased a terrific performance to claim the New Zealand Open title by beating China’s Qiao Bin in two-sets.

The Veteran South Korean star only needed two sets to breeze past his Chinese counterpart, winning 21-12, 21-15. Lee was also in Auckland last year, but he struggled to make an impact due to a niggling calf injury. This time around though, the script was entirely different as the South Koreans validated the sharpness of his skills by making it all the way.

“It has taken a lot of dedication to get here today as champion. This season I came back well prepared so I’m really happy with the result,” Lee said in a post-match interview.

“I used the right techniques against my opponent because I’ve played against him before and know what strategies to use.”
