Liew Daren handed dengue setback

Malaysian shuttler Liew Daren has been handed a massive blow after he was diagnosed with dengue fever; effectively ruling him out of the New Zealand Grand Prix Gold tournament, which is scheduled to take place next week.

Daren was admitted to hospital after suspicions over his symptoms emerged, and while he is receiving treatment at the moment, Daren has confirmed his decision to pull out of the competition.

“I will not be able to participate in the competition, certainly not in this condition so I have decided to pull out,” Daren was quoted saying as by Harian Metro.

Daren was recently placed under the supervision of Hendrawan, who was tasked with improving his performances. While some fans remain sceptical over the move, Daren is determined to keep working and improving under the Indonesian’s tutelage.

“I will try my best to step up my performance under the guidance of Hendrawan,” he added.
