National shuttler Chong Wei Feng booked his spot in the third round of the 2015 Asian Badminton Championship (ABC) after demolishing Syria’s Aljallad Ahmad.
The national number two shuttler, who came into the competition as Malaysia’s sole men’s singles representative, only need a time span of 26 minutes to secure a 21-7, 21-12 straight sets victory over the Syrian.
He will next face Uzbekistan’s Artyom Savatyugin, who advanced into third round unchallenged, after third seed Srikanth Kidambi’s withdrawal in the second round.
If Wei Feng successfully passes the next hurdle, he could potentially face China’s Tian Hou Wei or South Korea’s Lee Dong Keun in the last eight.
Meanwhile, national women’s singles shuttler Tee Jing Yi was handed a free ticket to the third round after Mazahreh Leina Fehmi of Jordan withdrew from the competition. She will next face fourth seed Ji Hyun Sung, who defeated Sanaa Mahmoud 21-8, 21-9.
