Nothing wrong in me being fashionable – Lin Dan

China’s badminton hero Lin Dan claims there’s nothing absurd about athletes being fashionable in their dressing and called upon more athletes to develop a charisma for themselves.

The experienced shuttler recently collaborated with Italian design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana and released a series of images in which he modeled some of their outfits. The reception from fans has been mixed, with some suggesting that off-court antics will only hamper his performances.

But as far as Lin Dan is concerned, he sees no reason as to why athletes can’t separate their career from what they do outside the court.

“I think athletes should exhibit a sense of charisma and uniqueness,” he was quoted as saying by Sinchew. “Also, I don’t fault athletes for trying to be fashionable.”

Lin Dan arrived in Wuhan for the Asian Badminton Championship yesterday and the 31 year-old is already looking to put on a solid show this time around

Previous men singles’ champion Lin Dan had made a showstopper when he arrived at the airport with his fellow teammates for the Badminton Asia Championships.

“I’m glad to be able to come back to Wuhan with the team. The last time we came, we won the Thomas Cup for the fifth consecutive time. I hope this time around, we’re able to put up on a great performance as well,” he added.

The 35th edition of the Asian Badminton Championships will be starting today (April 21) before ending on April 26.
