Fenerbache were extremely impressive in their 5-1 win over Rizespor, but what happened after the game, would certainly be remembered by the players for years to come.
The club’s team bus was ambushed and attacked by gunmen, as they were making their way to the Trabzon airport, injuring the bus driver in the process. However, none of the Fenerbahce players were injured in the attack.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu confirmed that investigation on the incident is already underway, while Fenerbache’s General Secretary Mahmut Uslu, who was in the bus during the attack, condemned it in a statement as well.
“We come here to do sport; we come to play football,” Uslu said.
The players eventually made their way to the airport, where they were given a heroic welcome by large amounts of Fenerbahce fans, who were waiting for them at the Istanbul Airport.
