We’ve seen some bizarre sending offs throughout the years, but an incident in Brazil certainly makes it to the top of that list. Jozy Altidore got send off for swearing at the referee during USA’s friendly match in midweek, but Internacional’s Fabricio got sent off for swearing at his own fans!
The Brazilian side took on Ypiranga in a Campeonato Gaucho match on Wednesday night, and both sides had one men sent off in the first half. But after the break, Internacional were reduced to nine men after Fabricio was shown the red.
He was being jeered and booed by Internacional fans, and it appeared that the Brazilian footballer had enough of it at one point, flicking two middle finger salutes towards the crowd. Next thing you know, the referee swooped for the red card in his pocket.
