Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin revealed that the RM9 million saved from cost reduction measures that were implemented for the 2015 edition of Le Tour de Langkawi, will be channeled for cycling development programs.
Having opted to privatize the organisation of the event, the Youth and Sports ministry managed to save RM9 million, since they only use RM10 million from the original budget of RM19 million that was allocated for it.
“I made the decision to use the money saved (RM9 million) to organise development programmes for cycling because the money saved was from cycling,” Khairy told reporters after the final stage of the LTdL 2015.
“Therefore it must be channeled for the benefit of cycling,” he added.
Meanwhile, Khairy also applauded the performances of national cyclists, who managed to make it to the podium; claiming that their achievements validates the growth of Malaysian cycling.
