The Perlis Football Association has slammed parties that criticized their inability to complete wage payments for players, citing ‘external factors’ as a major reason behind their financial difficulties.
Reports recently emerged that Perlis FA had not paid their players for over six months, and several individuals have even filed a complain with the Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia (PFAM).
However, the Perlis FA claims that it will be sorting out all payments very soon, and that their inability to process them on time, was due to factors, that were apparently out of their control.
“It’s not that we don’t want to pay them, but our difficulties was probably affected by several external factors, which resulted in players not receiving their salary in time,” Perlis FA’s Secretary Marzuki Mohd Sani said, in a very vague statement.
“We even had a meeting with players in September, and most of them agreed to the payment structure and process that we derived and explain thoroughly in that meeting.
This comes as no surprise as late wage payments are becoming extremely common within the Malaysian football landscape. Recently, Selangor FA were also involved in a wage fracas, with Paulo Rangel claiming that he hadn’t been paid for over two months; before deciding to depart the Red Giants and join East Coast side Terengganu FA.
