Exclusive: I’m in love with Malaysia – Sime Darby’s Marko Perovic

Sime Darby Football Club are definitely in for a massive season as they unveiled their revamped squad for the upcoming season of Malaysian football recently.

But the one new addition that certainly caught the eye of many is Serbian winger Marko Perovic. The 30 year-old forward comes with an expensive CV, including a one year stint with FC Basel, where he featured for them in the prestigious UEFA Champions League.

So visibly, Perovic is new to the Malaysian football scene, having only been here for a month. But it certainly appears that he has seamlessly adapted into life with Sime Darby and Kuala Lumpur in general.

“I know that playing in Malaysia will be an amazing experience. I really like the weather, I’ve been here for almost 20 days and I definitely love this place,” he told FourthOfficial.com exclusively.

“It’s also very easy to communicate with my teammates. Most of them are very comfortable in English and this is completely different to my last club in Thailand, where I struggled to communicate with my teammates. But even the coach here is impressive; he seems to have a very deep understanding of the game in general.

Sime Darby were relatively impressive last season, finishing fifth in the Super League despite it being their debut season in the top flight. However, Marko thinks that the squad can really improve on their records from 2014, claiming that the youth players would be a breath of fresh air within the team.

“Personally, I’m taking things slowly, step-by-step. We’ll be going to Thailand for pre-season in January, but I think I can achieve a lot with this team.

“There are plenty of young players within this team as well, and they are talented, which is exciting. But they have to learn and prepare from pre-season onwards, so that we can do well during the season.”
