The Selangor state govt has pledged to assist the state football association in reimbursing the unpaid salaries of players, with RM2 million being allocated for that purpose.
Amirudin Shari, who is the exco of youth, sports, culture and entrepreneur development, claimed that the funds were not there to dismiss the failure of the FA, but rather aid the welfare of players who ply their trade within the state.
“As a responsible government, we are doing this to help the players, not the management of the sporting body,” he said at the state assembly gathering earlier today.
This comes after several Selangor players exclusively revealed to us that they weren’t being paid on time, before Paulo Rangel eventually made it public via a statement on his social media accounts. He threatened to depart the club, and eventually did leave, making the move over to Terengganu.
The Selangor FA is reportedly set to undergo a revamp, with stylistic changes being made to ensure better accountability and efficacy in the long run. While Amiruddin pointed out that the state govt has ideas of emulating successful blueprints from other nations like Japan, it will not be interfering in the entire process as a whole.
“We are hoping to emulate the experiences of Japan and Korea and incorporate them into the association. We are aware and are concerned about the matter surrounding the FA but we will have to move carefully on this,” he added.
