China Open 2014 : Day 3

Chong Wei Feng fell against Japanese Sho Sasaki in the men’s singles third round at the China Open.

The Malaysian number 2 won the opening game 26-24 and was leading 17-12 in the second, but stumbled to lose 26-24, 21-23, 21-6.

It was Wei Feng’s third straight defeat to Sasaki this year, having lost at the Malaysian Open in January and Japan Open in April.

Sasaki will next face five-time world champion Lin Dan, the lone Chinese player left in the men’s singles event.

Lin Dan booked his berth in the last eight after a 19-21, 21-18, 21-15 win over second seed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark.

Marc Zwiebler recorded the biggest shock of the day. The German stunned China’s world champion Chen Long 13-21, 25-23, 21-19.

Three other Chinese players, Wang Zhengming, Gao Huan and Xue Song also failed to make the last eight.
