Audi is said to be considering a switch from the DTM series and FIA World Endurance Championship, to Formula One in 2016.
According to reports, the German manufacturer is under immense pressure from its parent company, Volkswagen, to leave Le Mans and the FIA WEC to its sister brand, Porsche.
Audi could likely combine its existing DTM and WEC budgets to enter Formula One in 2016, possibly joining forces with a more established F1 team like Red Bull Racing or its sister outfit, Toro Rosso.
Back then, Audi, which was known as Auto Union, was a major motor racing team prior to World War II. However, it has never officially competed in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, which kicked off in the 1950s.
