Marc Marquez retained his MotoGP championship title, despite a second-place finish at the Motegi track in Japan today (October 12th) and three races to go. The Repsol Honda rider won the title with an incontestable lead of 312 points in the overall standings, thanks to his 11 victories in the past 15 races.
The 21 year old is now the youngest ever back-to-back champion, beating the previous record held by Britain’s Mike Hailwood in 1963.
Spain’s Jorge Lorenzo won the race 1.6 seconds ahead of his compatriot, followed by Italy’s Valentino Rossi in third.
Rossi’s win bumped him up to second place in the championship, ahead of Marquez’s team-mate Dani Pedrosa, with Lorenzo in fourth.
